Sueing the police isn't good enough & hasn't ever stopped the killing of Black people. We must impose sanctions on individual cities for crimes against the people.
By now the entire world has been made aware of the tragic story about the heartbreaking murder of an unarmed 36-year-old black woman named Sonya Massey, who was savagely shot in the face by a roguishly racist police officer named Sean Grayson on July 6, 2024. Similar to the horrific murder of George Floyd that occurred on May 25, 2020, the video recording of the heartless murder of a Black woman who was in distress and had called for help, was just as gruesome and unnecessary as almost any other killing that America has ever witnessed.
Unfortunately, taking civil and criminal actions alone against corrupt police officers has proven to be INEFFECTIVE and an outdated method of response. For decades now, there have been countless Civil suits filed against individuals and corporations for their roles in the deaths of Black people, and that action alone has never given Black people true justice, stopped us from being killed, or forced Black lives to matter to a system of hate.
If this were not true, then there would have never been the racially motivated murders of Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, and so many others. Dreadfully, Black Americans continue to be killed at an alarming rate in the United States by trusted authority, and this very troubling issue can no longer be ignored. Because we have failed to discover an effective way to make a conspired system of hate pay for the reckless behaviors of policemen that oftentimes have led to the killing of innocent Black citizens. This matter is extremely disturbing, once you consider that black lives aren't even valued in our own country, and this comes after our ancestors built America for free, through the forced labor of slavery. There is no doubt that we are owed so much more than we have ever been given. Since the beginning, the American justice system has always lived by the moniker; We must send a message to the criminals so that we can put an end to our most threatening issues. However, in this case, racist police officers who freely kill Black Americans are no longer exempt from being held accountable.
We must THINK that if the consequences were raised, then there would be more thought, patience, and consideration before deciding to recklessly take the lives of Black Americans.
In addition to the pending civil and criminal charges brought against the officers in question, here are a few costly penalties that are capable of minimizing the risk of police misbehaviors and negligence in regards to stopping Black lives from being carelessly taken by crooked cops.
The officer’s eligible pensions after retirement should be cut in half if he/she is found guilty of recklessly murdering a Black American in cold blood.
If the officer retires before the children of the victim turn 21 years old, the pension that he/she loses as a result of the murder should go to the children of the victim, or until the victim’s kids turn 21 years of age.
Officers found guilty of murder, or any form of taking a Black life would have to disclose the information to their next employer, even if their next job isn't in law enforcement. Then, their crimes should be reported to a national registry for tracking purposes to ensure that the criminal offenses of police officers are not reoccurring. (Tracking systems such as TRURECORD, presented by The M.O.C.H.A. Foundation in 2021).
The city, county, parish, or district in which the officer is employed should be economically sanctioned for a period of 3-5 years as a result of a racially motivated murder of a Black American. The penalty for taking a life should start at 5 million dollars, which would be paid by the city/county/parish over the same 3-5 year time span. This money would be given to the immediate family of the victim.
The city/county council would immediately become responsible for oversight during the hiring process of all future new hires of any police department whose law enforcement officers are found guilty of the murder of a Black American. This will reduce the negligence of police officers while making the city/county government more accountable for the actions of its officers.
The Solutions written above are only a few ways to effectively make police officers accountable for their crimes against Black Americans. Ultimately, we must discover different methods of resolve so that we are able to STOP our generational pains from continuing and being passed down to generations to come. Oftentimes, whenever we decide to take legal action against corruption and sue the police department, much of those funds are coming from the city and not the police officers who caused the chaos.
