A Super-Saving Solution that the NFL Must Consider for Super Bowl LIX, happening in New Orleans, LA.
A Super-Saving Solution that the NFL Must Consider for Super Bowl LIX, happening in New Orleans, LA.
On the 23rd anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks of 9/11, there was another terrorist attack that happened that was quietly covered up by the media and for this reason, this potential lynching has gone unnoticed by the public. Reports from the family of 21-year-old Javion McGee state that on September 11, 2024, the body of Javion, a young Black man from Chicago, Illinois, was found hanging from a tree in Henderson, North Carolina. To make matters worse, whenever Javions mother requested to see her son, the local authority refused her visit, based upon their belief that Javions mother did not need to see her son's badly bruised body in the condition in which Javion was discovered. There are too many unanswered questions in this case. However, the authorities in Henderson, NC, have not been forthcoming with the facts. The RELUCTANCE of the local police to release the details of what happened to Javion has led many to believe that he was the latest lynching victim of a racist southern society. One that has been silenced on racial injustices, and blinded by the allure of an American dream that has come at the expense of Black labor and lives.
Over the past couple of decades, there has been deep criticism coming from those who believe that the National Football League could be much more involved in the social matters that affect the lives of its Black players. In a league that is dominated by Black athletes, one would think that the NFL would do so much more to ensure the protection of its investments. Unfortunately, the nation is only days off from witnessing a few Miami police officers totally fumble the traffic stop of Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. A traffic stop that forcefully ended up with The NFL star outside of his luxury car, and on the ground shortly before the kickoff between the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
One week ago, the NFL revealed that mega hip hop star Kendrick Lamar would be the featured act at next year's SUPERBOWL (Sunday, February 9, 2025), since that time, there have been several near confrontations and uncomfortable tensions that have resulted in threats of violent feuds being sparked between the average hip hop fan, many Black influencers, athletes, and entertainers alike. A little bit of everyone has voiced their opinions on the matter, and some have taken the decision of the NFL way too personally.
Because there has been minimal concern by NFL Ownership in helping to alleviate the racial injustices that still plague the lives of Black Americans, some fans have questioned the loyalty of the league in respect for the lives of Black Americans. When you stop and think about it, “tackling” or “sacking” Black-on-Black violence has never been addressed by NFL Ownership in an attempt to make peace between people within Black communities.
Personally, I do not enjoy seeing some of my favorite celebrities and music artists go back and forth in disagreement that oftentimes develop into situations that are taken out of hand. Not necessarily by the Entertainers, but by the fans of the opposing voice of their favorite entertainer. Surprisingly, this happens quite often in Black America where people have been killed over discussions that turn into arguments about the opinions of their favorite rapper. Shockingly, most fans who passionately discuss rap beefs, are willing to stand on the views of their favorite rapper, as if they have somehow been personally commissioned to lead the battle. With these truths in mind, before some situations escalate and turn into misunderstandings among the people we love, I wanted to offer a solution to the NFL that would strengthen a currently fragile relationship between the owners and the players in a league that is African-American-driven.
With all due respect to the great people of New Orleans, so what if Kendrick Lamar does perform at the Super Bowl halftime show? He really did earn it, for being the hottest rapper as of right now, at this very moment. To be fair, the people of Los Angeles didn't have anything to do with the NFL's decision to choose KL, so why is there so much animosity between LA and NO?
However, there are two sides to every coin, and maybe the reason that the NFL’s decision to choose Kendrick Lamar was taken personal by some, is because MUSIC IS THE PULSE BEAT OF LIFE IN NEW ORLEANS, and it represents the Truth to the youth of the Louisiana city who feel that it has been forgotten and overlooked. Just as the case was in 05 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans, where the overwhelming majority of the 30,000 people were abandoned by their own federal government. The people of New Orleans were left without electricity, food, and water for five whole days, as the people of America watched them die live on National News stations. I'll never forget the horrific scenes of their lifeless bodies as they began to flow through the swollen waters of the city as if they were logs floating down a bloody river.
After nearly 20 years since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, I can't think of anything substantial that has been done to help the city of New Orleans emotionally and psychologically heal. Even with the insignificant funds that were distributed to the victims of Katrina, the citizens of the city still received a raw deal.
Especially once you consider that Last year alone, SURVIVORS OF 9/11 received 1.8 Billion Dollars in compensation.
What have we done post-Katrina as a Unified Nation to ensure that the people who lost loved ones along with all of their materialistic values are continuing to receive the necessary resources that most never got? Did we stay committed to helping the people of the city of New Orleans heal?
Understandably, after enduring so much, there is an ample amount of pain behind the response of the people of the N.O. to the decision of the NFL to showcase Kendrick Lamar in New Orleans during the Super Bowl halftime show, and here is how the NFL should fix it.
The Solution ⬇️
IF THE NFL GENUINELY CARES ABOUT HELPING TO PREVENT A TERRITORIAL RAP WAR FROM THE BEGINNING, ONE THAT WOULD HELP TO FURTHER DESTROY AND DIVIDE BLACK MEN IN AMERICA, THEN THE NFL LEADERSHIP WOULD CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR DECISIONS ACCORDING TO THE RELEVANCE, SENSITIVITY, AND RESPECT FOR BLACK CULTURE.
IS THE NFL WILLING TO MAKE ONE ADJUSTMENT TO SHOW AND PROVE THAT THE CORPORATION IS WILLING TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH BLACK MEN AS WE SEARCH FOR MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO END BLACK ON BLACK VIOLENCE?
Why not allow for NEW ORLEANS to perform a live special Super Bowl opening, featuring No Limit & Cash Money Records?
Was Master P, not the first breakthrough rapper to receive recognition by the mainstream media when he made being an owner in hip hop respectable after being listed as one the richest entertainers in Forbes?
In 1998, Master P ranked 10th on Forbes magazine's list of America's 40 highest-paid entertainers, with an estimated income of $56.5 million. This was a first for hip-hop artists. Master P's success as an owner and entertainer first inspired young Black men in the South to aspire to be their own boss. In 1998, Master P (P. Miller) was enjoying so much success that he announced his retirement from the rap game. Only a year later, MASTER P was on the cover of Fortune magazine as one of the 40 richest men under the age of 40. Immediately following in the footsteps of their fellow New Orleans Mogul Master P, Cash Money Records, another Black-owned New Orleans rap record label, announced to the world that they were taking over for the 9,9 and the 2000s. Did Lil Wayne not own the game in the early 2000s, when every respected rapper in HIP-HOP sought him out for a feature on their albums?
Not only did they accomplish the takeover, but Cash Money is also responsible for every bit of the Bling Bling culture that still identifies with the world of hip hop to this day. Cash Money's influence on the game is clearly visible, as it transcended the culture through the Hot Boys' music that showcased Cash Money artists dripped out in luxurious diamonds that complimented their lavish lifestyle. Just like Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Cash Money Records, No Limit Records and Master P also accomplished some of the most unbelievable achievements coming straight out of a place where no one ever gave them opportunities, yet they were forced to create greatness on their own, despite having to break down doors of unwarranted resentment from fans who were initially unwilling to listen to Southern rap artist.
I’m not personally advocating for any artist to entertain the Super Bowl Halftime, other than the one that the NFL has already chosen. I'm only hoping that the points that I have raised provide some understanding as to why the Super Bowl Halftime show in New Orleans is being taken so personally by the people of the state of Louisiana.
Please don't misunderstand me, I have the utmost respect for the very gifted Kendrick Lamar, as I believe that he has the greatest minds in music. He is everything that a woke culture craves for. Kendrick Lamar now stands alone at the top, after America witnessed his David vs Goliath victory in his personal battle with Young Money artist Drake. Noooo, Kendrick was never the smaller man as far as lyrics are concerned. The truth is, no matter if people like it or not, Drake comfortably ruled hip hop based on the charts and was arguably the most famous rapper at the time Kendrick Lamar released the smash diss, Not Like Us. We have got to respect the brilliance of his PHENOMENAL songwriting abilities that have produced early smash hits like Don't Kill My Vibe, Poetic Justice, and Drank. We also can not forget that Kendrick Lamar has two No. 1 Billboard hits, 12 top-ten hits, 50 Grammy nominations, and 17 Grammy awards. So let there be no questions of whether or not Kendrick Lamar is deserving of the Superbowl stage because, without a doubt, his record-breaking career is worthy of all accolades.
