👨🏽‍🏫The addition of “Student Care” 👨🏾‍💼📚 will greatly reduce the scare.

In most cases, it seems that news is able to travel at supersonic speeds, yet one of the last stops on its record-breaking course is to the ears of a parent whose kid is the primary focus of an unknown occurrence.

In many cases, once a parent has been made aware of a school-related issue involving their child, the problem has already gotten progressively worse and the school has now been forced to get involved and notify the parent or guardian in regards to the incident involving the troubled child. At this point, the issue in question usually has failed to be properly addressed by school leadership and therefore there is no solid attempt at a meaningful remedy. In America, the Guidance Counselor system has been around now for over 100 years assisting with the needs of students in distress. But at the same time, we have to face the fact that most Black students, children of poverty, and students with greater/special needs have been ignored and therefore universal progress is nonexistent.

Many times, school counselors are somewhat detached from the most critical issues facing students who are considered at risk or challenging, due to a lack of experience with students of different social and ethnic backgrounds.

Our guidance professionals have traditionally shown little interest in resolving issues that they are unfamiliar with and therefore some students feel as if there is any type of true understanding of their unresolved issues. Many schools are often understaffed with only 2 or 3 qualified professionals that are available to assist with the most personal and at times intimate issues of hundreds of students in which they serve. We must change this system and employ while investing in professionals that are able to effectively assist students with the greatest needs.

The Men Of Color Having Answers Foundation (M.O.C.H.A) believes that school systems/districts all across America would tremendously benefit from the addition of Student Care Consultants. This updated concept of the traditional version of the standard guidance counselor will allow for student disputes, quarrels, arguments, feuds, or any type of nonviolent conflicts to be identified long before the issue has an opportunity to result in violence. One of the simplest solutions would be to add to the existing counselor’s staff in order to be able to effectively assist all students in need.

Student Care Consultants are a team of prevention counselors who target issues of self-awareness, self-esteem, self-love, and mental maintenance; while also assisting students in distress with overcoming some of their most notable challenges, which negatively affect their educational experience.

One of the greatest advantages of creating and implementing Student Care Consultants (SCC) is that these counselors are able to provide helpful alternatives to threats of violence before occurrences have an opportunity to reach an unmanageable level. This means that the SC Consultant could potentially hear limited details regarding 2 or more students who may have had an early morning disagreement, yet this issue later evolved into an argument during lunchtime. The SC consultants would then be called on to intervene in hopes of successfully being able to gain a mutual understanding between the students involved; so that the issue at hand is able to be settled in a peaceful and respectful manner. It is extremely important that the issue in question be resolved the very same day of the recommendation so that the problem doesn’t have an opportunity to escalate.

In being successful in establishing SC Consultants, we are better preparing our students to deal with real issues that continue to affect their education inside of the classrooms. I believe that our schools should be able to provide motivational, psychological, and emotional support to all kids in order to be able to create a healthy learning environment. Unfortunately, in many urban areas that are poverty-stricken, some parents are unable to be to provide adequate advice to their children that don’t end in some form of violence. This is greatly due to most children having to adapt to their respective environments in order to survive. I feel that our schools should be more involved with the issues of their students and that Crimes against Community (aka black-on-black crimes) should be addressed at an early age with SC Consultants in order to reduce acts of self-hate which will later have positive results within our communities.

Our children do not need more policing inside of their schools and classrooms to ensure their protection, what we are missing is an updated system with professionals who are equipped to help our kids to understand one another so that they are able to grow, mentally and physically.

In achieving success with Student Care Consultants and by exceeding our desired targets, we aggressively aid in instilling self-respect in our students which is the foundation of great character.
